Food: 3 bullet points

The subject of food is not a simple one. For a myriad of reasons, it's the area clients tend to have the hardest time improving. If it was as simple as "making better choices", eating better would be a slam dunk. But for most of us, the subject of how and why we eat what is complicated. For this reason, we at Revo Fit will try and condense nutrition info down to the bottom-line essentials you need to know to improve how and what you eat, and therefore, improve the results of your training and the ability of you to be able to put your jeans on (standing up).

1. Any naturally occuring food is a good choice. Feeling masochistic? Try reading about nutrition; online, in your favoriote health magazine, or what your friend heard from another friend who lost three pounds by eating this weird fruit from China. So much of it is nonsense and quite often, contradictory to what you just read last month. Bottom line? If it's a naturally occuring food, you can eat it. Ignore the Glycemic Index, nutritionists lobbying pro and con about egg yolks, the hysteria over (gasp!) eating beef. If it came from Mother Nature, it's a good choice.

To be clear, any meat, fruit, veggie, grain that has not been recreated, mutated, boxed, bagged or canned by man is fine. Overly simplistic? Sure, but we gotta start somewhere. It's simple: If you're eating food from a box that you found in the middle aisles of the grocery store, you're selling yourself and your training short.

Caveats? Allergies would be one or gluten intolerance. Not liking vegetables is NOT a good excuse. It amazes us how clients or spouses of clients over the years simply didn't eat vegetables because they "did not like them." At Revo, we don't work with children, we work with adults. When you work with us you show up wearing your big- boy pants. In the gym and at the dinner table.

2. Eat more quality protein. Wanna get the best results out of all your hard work in the gym? You've got to give your body the foundation for you to be able to build muscle. Notice, it's "quality" protein. We're not talking more Big Macs and hot dogs. You're going to have to invest in, and prepare more lean beef, chicken, fish, turkey beans and nuts. Find a good protein powder.

How much protein? Again, you can drive yourself crazy reading about protein intake online. Try to make a point of eating quality protein at every single meal. Forget the concept of "too much," it's ridiculous. Trust us, you're not eating enough.

3. Drink more water. The least sexy piece of nutrition advice. "Yeah, yeah, yeah, drink more water. But what about those Raspberry Ketones?" Drinking more water is the easieast way to become healthier, instantly. Most people live their lives dehydrated. When you're perpetually dehydrated and working your ass off in the gym, it"s not a good combination.

Water quells your appetitie, making it easier to make better food choices and not over-eat. It helps keep you regular so your body rids itself of waste and toxins more often. It improves the health of your skin and keeps your muscles more full. AND, if you're drinking water, you're not drinking other junk. So when we say water, we mean plain-old water, not carbonated water, not sport drinks or juice. And not sodie pop. Again, adults. Big-boy pants.

It's not aboiut being perfect with how you eat, it's about making these three points the foundation from which you choose how to eat. Do that and you can "cheat" with impunity. We want the way you eat to improve your life, not BE your life.

See you in the gym,

Revo fit
